Southampton remain in the Championship, but a host of former Saints are set to feature at the 2026 World Cup. According to Sainstmarching.com, alumni will be spread across several nations and even in the dugouts.

Virgil van Dijk captains the Netherlands, who will face Yan Valery’s Tunisia and Sweden in the group stage. The defender first made his Premier League mark at St Mary’s before trophy-laden years with Liverpool.

Sadio Mané, another former Southampton star, leads Senegal as their record scorer and is now with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. He also lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021.

Kevin Danso is in Austria’s squad, who will meet holders Argentina in their group. Duje Ćaleta-Car, a 2018 World Cup runner-up with Croatia, could face England, where Tino Livramento is vying for the right back spot.

Bristol-born Alfie Jones qualifies for Canada through his grandmother and has two caps. The defender missed Middlesbrough’s play-off ties with Southampton this year because of an ankle injury.

Che Adams scored 48 goals in 191 games for Southampton, helped promotion in 2024, then left for Torino. Goalkeeper Angus Gunn remains in Scotland’s squad, competing with Hearts’ Craig Gordon, while Ross Stewart also features. In the technical area, Graham Potter leads Sweden, Ronald Koeman is in charge of the Netherlands, and Mauricio Pochettino heads the USMNT, co-hosts of the tournament.
