Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has signed a new contract through the 2030 World Cup campaign. The former West Brom manager will take the team to their first men's World Cup in 28 years this summer in North America.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the deal ends prolonged uncertainty after Clarke rated his chances of staying as 50-50 in March, with no formal offer then on the table.
Clarke took charge in May 2019 after guiding Kilmarnock to third in the William Hill Premiership. He has since delivered back-to-back European Championships, a stint in the top tier of the UEFA Nations League, and top spot in World Cup qualifying sealed by a 4-2 win over Denmark in November.
He managed Albion for a little under 18 months from June 2012, finishing eighth in his only full season, the club’s best league placing since 1981. He was stood down in December 2013, placed on gardening leave until May, with the side 16th and two points above the drop zone.
Current Albion head coach James Morrison worked under Clarke with Scotland and was on his staff at Euro 2024. Since taking over at The Hawthorns, Morrison has said he seeks advice from experienced former bosses including Clarke.
Clarke wanted his future settled before flying to the United States on Sunday, and the Scottish FA has now provided clarity. He said he feels honoured and proud to continue as head coach, stressed the value of stability, and plans to work with new chief football officer Craig Mulholland to strengthen the youth-to-senior pathway. For now, his focus is the World Cup build-up, starting against Curacao this weekend.
