Despite being knocked out from the Champions League, Celtic are still leading the Premiership race with a two-point cushion over bitter rivals Rangers. They had a tricky test this afternoon against in-form Hibernian and the gaffer Ange Postecoglou made an array of changes to the starting XI. However, they showed sheer supremacy at Parkhead and registered an emphatic 6-1 victory thanks to James Forrest’s hat trick, Giorgos Giakoumakis’ brace and a late Daizen Maeda goal.
Below are the Celtic players rated in their commanding win against Hibernian.
Joe Hart: 6
Made some routine saves. Should have done better to stop Thody Elie Youan’s strike that found the net and denied him a clean sheet in such a one-sided contest.
Anthony Ralston: 8
Deserved a start down the right after a couple of underwhelming performances from Josip Juranovic. The Scotsman enjoyed his minutes with overlapping runs, dribbles, crosses and passes into the final third.
Cameron Carter-Vickers: 7.5
His long balls lacked accuracy, but the composure in deep defence allowed the Hoops to play it out from the back with control and calmness.
Moritz Jenz: 7.5
Impressed with his passing game and made some no-nonsense clearances. Could have been better with his tackles as well as duels.
Alexandro Bernabei: 8.5
Another impressive display from the Argentine who not only set it up for Giakoumakis early into the game but also posed a constant threat down the left. Lost the ground duels but was spot on with his recoveries and interceptions.
Matt O’Riley: 7
Carried the ball forward from the deep to operate in the advanced areas. Linked up well with his teammates all around the pitch. Made way for Liel Abada midway through the second half.
James Forrest
Reo Hatate: 7
Looked lively with his movements and runs. But he lacked the creative spark high up the pitch before making way for Kyogo Furuhashi with 20 minutes remaining.
Aaron Mooy: 8.5
Was outstanding in the middle of the park as he played his part in a couple of Celtic goals. Dominated possession and kept on pulling the strings with sheer composure.
James Forrest: 9.5
Stayed patient for his opportunities and the Bhoys legend grabbed it expertly by firing in a hat-trick before making way for Oliver Abildgaard around the 65th-minute park.
Sead Haksabanovic: 7.5
Operated from the left and made an instant impact by assisting Forrest early into the game. Was taken off at halftime break for Daizen Maeda.
Giorgos Giakoumakis: 9
The Greek targetman converted twice from close range exhibiting his exquisite poaching attribute. Left the pitch for James McCarthy during the final quarter.
Daizen Maeda: 8
Netted in the closing minutes after a dreadful run of form in recent weeks.
Oliver Abildgaard: 7
Showed his strength and combative aspect deep down the midfield.
Liel Abada: 7.5
Played his part in Giakoumakis’ second within minutes of replacing O’Riley.
Kyogo Furuhashi: 7
Almost earned his place on the scoresheet. But his effort was denied by the woodwork.
James McCarthy: 6.5
A good few minutes for the veteran midfield ace who is being deployed sporadically by the Aussie chief.
