Barcelona will fight for a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League this Wednesday as they take on Newcastle United in the second leg of the Round of 16.

The first leg at St James’ Park last week ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving the Blaugrana in a precarious position.

But their exceptional record since returning to the Spotify Camp Nou earlier in the season gives them a major advantage ahead of tomorrow’s clash.

Barça go into the game without four players as Jules Kounde, Alejandro Balde, Andreas Christensen and Frenkie de Jong are injured.

Four players at suspension risk

Beyond that, there are also four Barcelona players just one yellow card away from suspension heading into tomorrow’s clash against Newcastle United.

Indeed, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Gerard Martin, and Marc Casado are all one caution away from earning an automatic one-match suspension for accumulation of cards in the Champions League.

It must be remembered that Lamine has already served a suspension in Europe this season. The 18-year-old winger is a certain starter for the Blaugrana tomorrow, along with Fermin and Martin, while Casado is likely to feature off the bench.

A yellow card to any of them would lead to a one-match ban, meaning they would stand to miss the first leg of the quarterfinals, provided Barcelona see off Newcastle and make it through to the next round.

It is worth noting that yellow cards in the Champions League are cleared from the semifinals onward, meaning players must navigate the next few matches carefully to avoid missing crucial games.
