Four changes as Régis Le Bris names first Europa League XI for Sunderland | OneFootball

According to Sunderland Echo, Régis Le Bris has made four changes for Sunderland’s Europa League debut against AZ Alkmaar. Wilson Isidor leads the line in place of Brian Brobbey, and Malick Fofana makes only his second start since his deadline-day move from Lyon.

Trai Hume returns to the starting XI, replacing Thomas Meunier, and will operate ahead of Nordi Mukiele on the right. Omar Alderete comes in as the left-sided centre back to manage Dan Ballard’s workload, while Reinildo keeps his place before a one-game suspension at Manchester City on Sunday.

Only Habib Diarra and Romaine Mundle are injured. Chemsdine Talbi, Melker Ellborg, Alan Browne, Jocelin Ta Bi and Juan Riquelme Angulo are omitted due to homegrown restrictions.

Speaking beforehand, Le Bris said he would need more than 11 players to handle the schedule, though at this early stage he believes it is possible to go strong. He added that players are fresh, keen to play and want to be part of something new for the club, and he hopes the competition proves interesting.

AZ Alkmaar have been boosted, with midfielder Kees Smit passed fit to start.
