FC Barcelona take on Valencia later tonight at Estadi Johan Cruyff in Matchday 4 of the 2025/26 La Liga, hoping to get back to winning ways.

The Blaugrana go into the game without some very key players, including Lamine Yamal and Frenkie de Jong – both permanent fixtures in Hansi Flick’s starting lineup when fit and available.

Both Lamine and De Jong returned with fitness problems from the international break and will not be involved tonight, while the former is also a doubt to face Newcastle United next week.

Barcelona’s record without Lamine and De Jong in the starting XI under Flick

According to Mundo Deportivo, up to this point, before Matchday 4 of La Liga 2025/26, Hansi Flick has managed Barcelona in 63 matches, and only once have Lamine Yamal and Frenkie de Jong both failed to play a single minute for different reasons.

Indeed, the only time Lamine (ankle injury) and De Jong (benched) both missed out completely was against Atletico Madrid on Matchday 18 of last season’s La Liga campaign, a match that ended in a 1-2 defeat for Barça at Montjuic.

Meanwhile, there were three other matches in which neither Lamine nor De Jong started, although one or both played minutes later. But none of them ended on a positive note for the Blaugrana.

Against Osasuna in September 2024, Lamine came on in the second half while De Jong was injured, and Barcelona ended up losing 2-4.

In late November 2024, when Barça took on Celta Vigo, Lamine was sidelined through injury, and De Jong played only two minutes, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw.

A week later, the Catalans suffered a 2-0 loss to Las Palmas when both Lamine and De Jong did not start and came on in the second half.

With both players unavailable today, Marc Casado is expected to partner Pedri in midfield, while Raphinha could start on the right flank and Marcus Rashford on the left. And, Flick will hope to buck that trend and lead Barcelona to a victory.
