Manchester City are continuing to await offers for two outgoing first-team stars this summer, while two other names are continuing to head towards the exit door.
While City have been active in the transfer market with both incomings and contract renewals, a number of current senior players remain in limbo over their immediate futures. With the new season drawing nearer, uncertainty continues to surround several high-profile names who have fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola.
Among the more pressing concerns is the lack of developments concerning the likes of Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips, with the latter long expected to depart after failing to establish himself in midfield, while the former’s struggles relate to form and fitness over the last 12 months.
Elsewhere, City’s extensive goalkeeping department is another area of interest, with four senior goalkeepers in the squad following an arrival into the roster earlier this summer.
Now, as per BBC Sport’s Shamoon Hafez, City are yet to receive offers for out-of-favour midfield duo Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips, while clubs in the Bundesliga and Premier League including Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are interested in James McAtee.
Elsewhere, and following the signing of James Trafford from Burnley earlier this summer, Manchester City currently have four senior goalkeepers within their ranks and Stefan Ortega is deemed as the most likely to depart, should any offers come in for the German shot-stopper.
The same report offering an overview of the current state-of-play at the Etihad Stadium indicates that City have reached agreements in principle over new contracts with both Ruben Dias and Nico O’Reilly, although the length of both new contracts remain unknown.
McAtee’s situation is one to watch closely, with City open to a permanent sale so long as the terms include either a buy-back clause or a favourable sell-on percentage. Despite recent speculation linking the attacking midfielder with Tottenham, that idea was recently shut down by Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe.
As for Ortega, the German could wait until late in the transfer window for clarity, particularly as potential suitors may weigh up his availability in comparison to other options. City are not actively pushing him out of the club but would not stand in his way for a good opportunity.
With Ruben Dias’ extension agreed, the Portugal international will remain a core figure at the back, while Nico O’Reilly is increasingly being seen as a long-term option in midfield after being linked with an exit earlier in the summer.
How the squad shapes up by the end of August may still depend on developments in the final two or three weeks of the window, with the Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips situations in particular set to define a significant portion of Manchester City’s business.
