Following the final round of Europe’s new-look league phase, we’re having a look at the best captaincy picks for GW24 ahead of the weekend round of fixtures.
Ahead of GW23 we picked under-fire Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison as our surprise pick, and despite falling 2-1 to relegation candidates Leicester City, the Brazilian International did get on the scoresheet before being withdrawn due to cramp in the 54th minute.
He earned a reasonable 5 points and for an attractive cost of just 6.8m, we feel bringing in the 27-year-old was a risk worth taking.
Let’s hope our surprise pick for GW24 gets among the goals Saturday afternoon!
Palmer has lined out for Chelsea against London rivals West Ham twice and scored both times, a very encouraging statistic as the Hammers head to Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Chelsea have already convincingly defeated West Ham at the London Stadium 3-0 this season and Enzo Maresca will be hoping for a similar result when they meet again.
Palmer has been in top form for most of the season and has even broken into England’s International set-up and will be a prime candidate to start under new manager Thomas Tuchel when the World Cup qualifiers begin in March.
The 22-year-old sits 2nd only behind Mo Salah in FPL points scored this season with an impressive total of 167 that includes 14 goals & 7 assists, a brilliant return for a midfielder. He’s likely to increase that in GW24.
The league leaders head to Bournemouth in GW24 to face Andoni Iraola’s side who are on a 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
An impressive stat that takes you all the way back to November 23rd to find their last defeat. A commanding 5-0 victory over high-flying Nottingham Forest last weekend was an example of the confidence the Cherries currently have.
The last month has been Liverpool talisman Mo Salah’s quietest of the season so far. He has been in inspiring form this season and leads Erling Haaland by 1 goal in the race to seal this season’s Golden Boot.

He picked up an assist when the teams met in a 3-0 win for the Reds in September.
It’s a double GW for the 32-year-old as they head to neighbours Everton on Wednesday night to play their re-fixed Merseyside derby.
The Egyptian has struggled at Goodison in the past and has failed to score in his last 2 appearances at Everton’s home ground. It will be the last Merseyside derby to be played at Goodison so there is guaranteed to be a raucous atmosphere for the midweek clash.
Speculation continues to circulate whether the contract situation he faces is effecting his performances on the pitch as talks continue if the goal machine will be at Anfield next season.
Liverpool fans are desperate for him to extend his contract with the club, however the situation continues to drag on. Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander Arnold are also in contract talks with the club.
Last season’s top 2 meet in GW24 at the Emirates and after City’s second-half comeback to save their European status in midweek, they may be coming into form at the right time.
It’s no secret that their stranglehold on the Premier League title for the last 4 years has been loosened but they’re unbeaten in 6 matches in the league for the first time this season.
It’s a positive in a mostly disappointing season so far for City fans and with a date in court hanging over the club, positives are hard to come by at the moment.
Erling Haaland however has begun to claw back the deficit in the race for the Golden Boot with Mo Salah and is only trailing the Egyptian by 1 goal.
He has struggled in the past to find the net when coming up against Arsenal’s solid centre-back pairing of Gabriel and Saliba, this weekend is another opportunity for the young Norwegian.
Alexander Isak presents a compelling case for the captaincy in GW24 as Newcastle United face Fulham at home. The Swedish forward has been in scintillating form, notching 13 points in his most recent outing against Southampton, which included two goals and a dominant display in attack. Fulham’s defence has shown vulnerabilities, and Isak’s combination of sharp movement and clinical finishing makes him a prime candidate to exploit these weaknesses. His recent form, averaging 7.1 points per match this season, coupled with Newcastle’s creativity in midfield, positions him as a reliable source of points.
Moreover, Isak’s predicted points of 5.21 for this fixture highlight his strong potential to deliver. With Newcastle pushing to solidify their place near the top of the table, the team’s attacking impetus is unlikely to waver. Isak’s ownership of 60.7% among forwards also ensures that captaining him aligns with many FPL managers’ strategies, mitigating rank risk. Against a Fulham side prone to conceding against well-drilled attacks, Isak offers both consistency and the potential for explosive returns, making him a top-tier captaincy pick for GW24.
With a double gameweek on the horizon, Illiman Ndiaye is an intriguing captaincy option for those seeking a differential. Everton face Leicester City away and Liverpool at home, giving Ndiaye two opportunities to deliver attacking returns. As Everton’s talisman and penalty taker, he is central to their attacking play, offering both consistency and potential for big hauls. His recent performance against Brighton in Gameweek 23, where he secured 8 points with a goal and bonus, highlights his capability to produce in crucial moments.
Double gameweeks are all about maximising opportunities, and Ndiaye’s role under Sean Dyche ensures he will play a pivotal part in both fixtures. Leicester’s defensive frailty and the high-stakes nature of the Merseyside Derby against Liverpool provide an ideal platform for Ndiaye to shine. At £5.5m and with low ownership, he is a risk worth considering for managers looking to move up the ranks in GW24.
Bukayo Saka (10.2m)
The England International has had surgery on his hamstring and is set to be out for a couple of months, Gunners fans will be eagerly awaiting his return after a strong start to the season from the 23-year-old. No good for GW24.
It’s been a difficult return to the Premier League for Kieran McKenna’s side as they sit in 19th place after 23 matches have been played.
Despite the Tractor Boys struggling to cope with life in the top-flight, their 20-year-old attacker Omari Hutchinson has been an impressive performer throughout the campaign.
The lively right-winger has caught the eye and has featured in 21 of the promotion sides Premier League outings so far this season.
The ex-Chelsea man will fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet as they welcome fellow promoted side Southampton to Portman Road this weekend.
For a very reasonable 5.2m, Hutchinson is a great option to bring into your FPL side and trust with the armband ahead of a favourable fixture this weekend. Its a rogue one, but its interesting for GW24.
