France national team: Is it already over for Akliouche?
France national team: Is Akliouche's adventure already over?
Maghnes Akliouche may not appear on Didier Deschamps’ upcoming squad list, which is expected to be announced Thursday. According to L’Équipe, the French coaching staff found his first call-up too subdued to provide immediate guarantees, though this does not rule out potential recalls in the future. The Monaco context hasn’t worked in his favor in recent weeks, with a reduced influence between the lines and a drop in decisive contributions. Each Les Bleus training camp is based on current form, the ability to repeat high-intensity sprints, and impact in key areas. Competition for his position is fierce, with established regulars and young talents making their mark at club level.
This situation is not about the player’s intrinsic quality. His technical skillset—built on angled ball control, quick footwork, and vision for passing in tight spaces—meets the demands of international football. However, the French national team requires a continuous presence both on and off the ball, as well as consistent defensive aggression. So, being left out now wouldn’t be a definitive sanction. To bounce back, Akliouche will need to regain his sharpness in the final third, increase his volume of effective runs, and have a bigger impact in the box. It’s through strong performances at Monaco that he can reopen the door to Les Bleus in the short term.
