Kylian Mbappé
The young captain of the French national team, Kylian Mbappé, is set to make even more history for French football in the coming months. Major records are within his reach.
Kylian Mbappé continues to write his name in the history books of Les Bleus. At just 26 years old, the Real Madrid striker has already become the second all-time top scorer for France. He surpassed Thierry Henry thanks to his goal against Iceland (2-1). But as Le Parisien points out, Olivier Giroud, who holds the record with 57 goals, is now firmly in his sights. With several matches still to play this year, Mbappé could become the all-time leading scorer before he even turns 27.
The former PSG star also tops the assists chart. He has already overtaken Antoine Griezmann, reaching 30 assists by the age of 25—a stage at which Griezmann had only 12 to his name.
When it comes to international appearances, Mbappé is now in the top 15 for France, ahead of Paul Pogba. With 54 caps before his 27th birthday, he is well on his way to closing the gap on Hugo Lloris, who holds the record with 145 appearances, and could even threaten that mark in the long run if his international career continues at this pace. The Parisian daily can easily imagine Mbappé ending his career with 160 or even 170 caps.
Finally, while the captaincy record may be out of reach—Lloris wore the armband 121 times—Mbappé could still aim for a spot on the podium. With 23 captaincies to his name, the Madrid striker is already proving himself as a respected leader on the pitch.
