France opened their World Cup camp at Clairefontaine on Friday with a fitness-focused first session, while the three goalkeepers trained on bikes. The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July.

L'Équipe reports that Didier Deschamps plans to use the first three days for physical work, with the group starting under a hot sun at 17:20.

Only 18 players were available. The five Parisians and Arsenal defender William Saliba are tied to Saturday’s Champions League final in Budapest, while Maxence Lacroix and Jean-Philippe Mateta are due on Saturday after winning the Conference League on Wednesday with Crystal Palace.

As the keepers rode, the 15 outfield players moved through stations overseen by fitness coach Cyril Moine, with intensity rising and smiles fading.

They were then split into two groups to run around the pitch, increasing the tempo by the minute. After a series of sprints on the grass, they put on their boots and the hour-long opener ended with rondos.
