France vs Paraguay: Predicted XI, Rotation Calls and Why Mbappe Still Starts

France have come through this tournament with minimal fuss. No drama, no panic, no sign that the heat in North America has seriously slowed them down. Now comes Paraguay in Philadelphia, a side that did well to get here after dumping Germany out on penalties, but this is a very different level of test.

Didier Deschamps has a decision to make. France are expected to reach the World Cup quarter-finals and the bigger threats are likely waiting beyond this tie, with Morocco, Spain or Portugal all possible later opponents. That means rotation is sensible, provided it does not become complacency.

France predicted XI for Paraguay test

The shape is familiar and the options are deep. Mike Maignan should continue in goal. Jules Kounde, William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano look the safest calls across the back line, though Theo Hernandez is well placed to come in at left-back for Lucas Digne. Maxence Lacroix is another option if Deschamps wants to manage minutes in central defence.

Midfield is where the workload matters. Aurelien Tchouameni and Adrien Rabiot have carried heavy minutes, so Manu Kone could be a potential change. Fresh legs now can matter later.

Kylian Mbappe remains central to France plans

Up front, there is one name that does not invite much debate. Kylian Mbappe starts. Simple as that. He is the reference point, the finisher and the player opponents fear most.

Around him, changes are more realistic. Ousmane Dembele may be protected, with Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola ready to step in. Rayan Cherki offers another creative option, though Michael Olise appears the safest bet in the No 10 role.

Paraguay challenge looks steep

Paraguay deserve credit for surviving the last 32 and punishing Germany from the spot after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes. That took nerve. It also took plenty out of them. Against France, they will need another near-perfect night.

The expectation is straightforward. France should have too much, even with changes. If Deschamps gets the balance right, this ought to be efficient rather than chaotic.
