Marcus Thuram went straight back into the Inter Milan starting eleven for yesterday’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.

The Frenchman had missed three matches for the Nerazzurri. He had suffered some muscular fatigue during Inter’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Bayern Munich.

Thuram was out for losses against Bologna and Roma in Serie A, and AC Milan in the Coppa Italia.

Therefore, there were some doubts about Thuram’s status for yesterday’s match against Barcelona.

The Frenchman managed to recover from his injury. However, there were questions as far as whether he’d be fresh and match-fit.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi had to make a decision as far as whether to start Thuram, or just utilize him off the bench as a substitute.

Marcus Thuram did immediately show Inter what they had been missing, however.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach striker certainly did not show any lack of match-fitness.

Thuram ran the Barcelona defenders, and in particular Marc Cubarsi, ragged for his entire time on the pitch.

Moreover, it was Thuram who scored Inter’s opener.

And it did not take the 27-year-old long.

Having been absent for three straight matches in which Inter did not get on the scoresheet, Thuram scored a brilliant backheel within a minute against Barcelona yesterday.

Therefore, the risk of putting the Frenchman straight back into the lineup for the semifinal first leg proved to be worth taking.
