France Télévisions has yet to renew its free-to-air rights for the Coupe de France and is seeking to halve its annual payment from 8 million euros to 4 million.
According to L'Équipe, the FFF launched its tender eight months ago and, while Les Bleus’ World Cup run guarantees 25.8 million euros from FIFA, cup broadcasting income remains a concern.
Under acute financial pressure, the public broadcaster has not cleared the reduced offer internally while it waits for clarity on next year’s finances. Deputy director general Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez said the group cannot give guarantees and remains in limbo.
At its season launch, the company would not rule out reselling Six Nations matches to TF1 again, having done so this year to save 15 million euros by ceding nine games. Sitbon-Gomez hoped to carry the full event in 2027, while Delphine Ernotte Cunci said the budget timetable is unclear.
The group has cut more than 80 million euros from content this season and, even in the best case, faces another 20 million in 2027, still under discussion with the state. FFF president Philippe Diallo said over a month ago he expected a swift conclusion, but no agreement has followed.
Meanwhile beIN Sports, the pay-TV partner, first bid 8 million euros a year for rights through 2030 then raised that to 9 million after fresh talks.
