Caen will be the host city for the second-leg of the UEFA Nations League semi-final tie between France and Germany. The hosts knocked out one of the most successful women’s national teams in the inaugural Nations League campaign, but Germany are now in the driving seat after a 1-0 win in the home leg.
Klara Bühl scored the winner late in the game with a powerful shot from outside the box. Except for one game, the Bayern Munich winger has a direct goal involvement in every match she has played since the start of the Bundesliga.
Germany were the better team in Düsseldorf on Friday evening, but France came very close minutes before the solitary strike of the game. Christian Wück had to deal with lots of injuries and suspensions during the European championship, and that trend continued in the early season of club football.
Team News
Before the start of Friday’s game, German players showed their support for Lena Oberdorf and Giovanna Hoffmann, who are both sidelined with serious injuries. Goalkeepers Ann-Katrin Berger and Ena Mahmutovic were also absent from the squad due to injuries.
Lea Schüller could regain her place as a lone striker after Nicole Anyomi started the first game. In defense, Camilla Küver will be expected to start once again after an impressive debut alongside the vastly experienced Kathrin Hendrich, who was sent off in the Euro 2025 quarter-final against France.
France confirmed OL’s Marie-Antoinette Katoto returned to her club due to injury after the first-leg. Manchester United’s Melvine Malard, who had France’s best chance before Bühl’s game, will most likely start up front.
