Last season, OGC Nice’s INEOS owners were forced to have a hands-off approach. With their other club, Manchester United, in whom they hold a minority share, competing in the UEFA Europa League alongside Nice, UEFA’s rules stated that INEOS could not interact with the Ligue 1 club for the 2024/25 season.
However, that ban ended during the summer. And whilst INEOS are once again involved with Le Gym, there has been no communication from the club’s owners. That has come to the frustration of some at the club, who are awaiting a public statement from INEOS.
Franck Haise stated as much in a press conference attended by Get French Football News. “Lots of us are waiting for the owners to speak. I hope that it will happen. But it isn’t my subject. My subject is the players, the staff, the matches, and the season. It is the only thing I can impact. The subject of the owners isn’t mine,” said the Nice manager.
It comes amid reports questioning INEOS’ commitment to Les Aiglons, with The Athletic reporting that they were exploring the sale of the French club. The lack of a public statement from the owners means that those rumours have not been dampened and the lack of clarity is something that the club want rectified.
It comes after a difficult summer and a difficult transfer window. Sporting director Florian Maurice described it as “unpleasant”, whilst Haise admitted to having “mixed feelings” about their dealings over the summer. Knocked out of UEFA Champions League qualifying by Benfica, Nice have since lost two of their opening three Ligue 1 games.
