Evann Guessand (24) has defied expectations. The Ivory Coast forward was expected to make a swift departure from formative club OGC Nice, however, as the club ramp up their pre-season preparations, he remains at the club.
It is not that there hasn’t been interest. Wolverhampton Wanderers showed interest in the centre-forward at the start of the campaign, however, he wasn’t keen on the switch. Turkey has also been touted as a potential destination, however, once again, he wasn’t keen on the switch.
Brighton and Hove Albion remain interested in Guessand, as do a host of other Premier League sides. Recently, Saudi Pro League side Neom SC, who have already signed Marcin Bulka from Le Gym, entered the race, too.
Amid such widespread interest, Franck Haise has told L’Équipe that he expects Guessand to leave this summer. “As long as he is here, I consider him a player in the squad and we are working so that he can perform well, whilst knowing that there is a 90% chance of a departure,” said the Nice manager.
Les Aiglons face Benfica in the third round of UEFA Champions League qualifying on 6th August. Time will tell if Guessand will play any part in that game.
