The Coventry City manager has been backed to take over as England manager
Frank Lampard has been given further backing to become England manager.
The Coventry City boss has completely transformed the Sky Blues after taking over from Mark Robins in November 2024, when they were sitting 17th in the Championship and seriously struggling for form.
In came the former Chelsea midfielder, whose reputation had been negatively affected after failing to take Everton up the Premier League. Lampard quickly proved any doubters wrong and had Coventry winning matches regularly.
This culminated in a play-off finish, where the Sky Blues narrowly missed out on progressing to the final due to a last-gasp Dan Ballard header.
Instead of letting that experience negatively affect them this season, Coventry have bounced back and lead the Championship by seven points after 16 matches, failing to score points on just one occasion during that time.
The Sky Blues have played beautiful football and scored 43 goals thus far, which is by far the division’s highest total. After taking Coventry to such an impressive place in terms of performance, Lampard has been backed to achieve greater things in the future.

Naturally, when an English manager performs well, there is always one job they are linked to.
Despite current boss Thomas Tuchel recently guiding the Three Lions through qualification to the 2026 World Cup perfectly, Lampard has already been backed to take over the role in the years to come.
Lee Hendrie supported that viewpoint when talking exclusively to Football League World and now Jody Morris, Lampard’s former assistant manager, has also had his say.
When speaking to Hayters TV via Casino.org, Morris was asked if the Chelsea icon could become England's boss one day.
“Absolutely,” stated Morris. “When you look at what Frank’s accomplished in his playing career, especially for England as well, what he represents, you’d have to say that he’d be one that you’d be looking at.
“We all know Eddie Howe’s probably slightly ahead of him at the moment, but if he carries on doing what he’s doing, there’s no reason why I wouldn’t see the FA looking at someone like Frank Lampard.
“I actually thought that even before they appointed Tuchel. I know he’s certainly going to be making a stronger case because of the success that he’s bringing to Coventry at the moment. But absolutely, I see him as a future England manager.”

At this moment in time, Tuchel has a contract until the end of the 2026 World Cup and it isn’t known whether there will be a desire to extend his period in charge until after the completion of that tournament.
Everybody involved with Coventry City will certainly be hoping that the German does remain as England boss, as attention could soon turn to Lampard if not.
If the Sky Blues continue their current form until May, then they could be back in the Premier League, which would be Lampard’s crowning achievement as a manager.
With his stock high, the FA could decide the time was right for the former Three Lions midfielder to take over as boss, which would be a huge blow for Coventry upon their return to the top-flight.
