Brandon Thomas-Asante, Victor Torp and Ephron Mason-Clark all found the back of the net for the Sky Blues’ final home game of the season.

While Ollie Rathbone had equalised for the visitors in the 25th minute, it wasn’t nearly enough to dampen the atmosphere among the team and their supporters.

It was a celebratory mood at the CBS Arena after the team clinched top spot in the division with their 5-1 win against Portsmouth on Tuesday evening.

Planning will now be underway for life in the Premier League, with the club embarking on a first top flight campaign in 25 years.

It could prove a busy summer transfer window, with Lampard likely to seek reinforcements to aid the team’s survival bid.

Frank Lampard urges Coventry to act quickly this summer

Lampard has warned Coventry that they must act quickly in the summer transfer market in order to avoid becoming a yo-yo club.

He confirmed that decisions will ultimately be made by owner Doug King, but he believes that the Sky Blues will act quickly in the transfer market in order to get a head start on their rivals.

"We've got a lot of work to do," said Lampard, via Talksport.

"We'll do it quickly, and I think I feel like we have to do it quickly.

"It's the owner's choice [on] a lot of these things because he's the boss man in the football club.

“But the conversations obviously have to happen quickly, but also enjoy this little moment."

Coventry narrowly missed out on promotion in two of the previous three campaigns, losing in the play-off final in 2023 and the semi-finals in 2025.

Lampard took charge in November 2024, and oversaw a fifth place finish in his first year in the dugout, having replaced Mark Robins.

Defeat to Sunderland in the play-offs ended their hopes of promotion, but the Sky Blues regrouped in the summer and came back stronger to earn top spot in the table this term.

Coventry still have one game spare, with the gap to second place Ipswich Town now 12 points.

Victory on the final day will bring Lampard’s team to 95 points, just five shy of last years’ total by the top two of Leeds United and Burnley.

The club are unbeaten in their last seven league games, drawing four and winning three, which was enough to pull away from the chasing pack behind.

It remains to be seen who will join Coventry in earning automatic promotion, with just four points separating Ipswich from fifth place Southampton.

Next up for the Sky Blues is a trip to face Watford at Vicarage Road on 2 May in a 12.30pm kick-off.

A lot of work will be needed for Coventry to be ready for the Premier League

Coventry have to get to work early on their summer plans, as they will have a lot to do to be prepared for life in the Premier League.

The jump up from the Championship will be a real test for the 47-year-old, as well as his first team squad.

The transfer window will prove an important period, but it will also be key to bring the current squad up to speed on what will be needed to survive.

Lampard has a lot of Premier League experience, and that knowledge could prove quite important this summer in getting the club ready for their first top flight campaign in 25 years.
