The Chelsea legend has been out of work since a caretaker spell at Stamford Bridge
Frank Lampard is favourite to become the next Coventry City manager.
The Championship club are searching for their first new manager in almost eight years following the sacking of long-serving Mark Robins on Thursday.
Coventy sit 17th in the Championship, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference, after 2-1 at home to Derby on Wednesday night.
Robins took the reins in 2017, guiding the club to promotion to League One following year and then up into the Championship two seasons later.
An interim head coach will be appointed for Coventry's trip to Championship leaders Sunderland on Saturday as the club begin their search for Robins' permanent replacement - and Lampard is the current favourite.
Lampard has been out of work since a woeful caretaker spell at Chelsea, which saw him win just one of 11 games. His last permanent role was with Everton, where he lasted just shy of a year before being sacked with a record of 12 wins in 44 games.
The former England midfield has been linked with a host of vacancies since, such as Rangers, Burnley and most recently Roma, and spoke in the summer of his readiness for a new role.
He said: "Some opportunities have come my way, they didn't feel right for the time. So I've kind of taken that decision a bit at times. But now I feel ready so we will see what opportunities come up. I'm certainly ready to work. I love doing what I do, so we will see."
