With fan unrest growing among the Owls fanbase, there are worries from Lampard over this weekend's fixture

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has had no reassurances yet over the safety of his Coventry City squad as they prepare to travel to South Yorkshire to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Sky Blues will head into their second away game on the bounce on cloud nine following a 4-0 demolition job of Millwall on Wednesday evening at The Den, with a Haji Wright brace helping them to a dominant success on the road.

In contrast though, the mood among the Owls fanbase is a frustrated and upset one - whilst Henrik Pedersen's side are unbeaten in three Championship matches on the pitch despite a skeleton squad to choose from, the non-payment of wages once more by owner Dejphon Chansiri has become the main story again.

August proved to be a rare time where Sheffield Wednesday staff and players were paid on time for just the second time in the previous six months, but Chansiri's evident cash flow issues came to a head once more earlier this week.

Pedersen has confirmed that 11 of his squad has not been paid yet, and the latest developments for Wednesday - who are under five separate EFL embargoes as well as a fee-paying transfer restriction until 2027 - are sure to provoke a strong response from the crowd that attend Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon against Coventry.

There are potential fears that some Wednesday fans may storm the pitch in order to get the game postponed, much like Blackpool did in protest of the Oyston family's ownership on the final day of the 2014-15 Championship season, and Lampard wants clarity on what would happen if the game were to be called off for that very reason - not that he's had much of a response.

"I have to think for Coventry City and my players and the things that I'm hearing about people might come on the pitch," Lampard said, as per the BBC.

"We haven't had massive clarity in our conversations this morning on our players' security, their players' security, what might happen.

"Sheffield Wednesday have to deal with their end but we want that communicated to us.

"What are the variables that may happen, what are the consequences of what might happen because we saw Ipswich and Blackburn recently, which is still ongoing. That was a natural cause, this may not be.

"I want some clarity on that, I haven't heard much. There are conversations on-going this morning and outside of that, I'll focus on my job of trying to get my team ready."

It's hard to see anything other than Sheffield Wednesday v Coventry City being abandoned at this rate

Amid potential takeover talk and the payment of wages for August, major protest threats and fears had been somewhat quelled temporarily last month at Sheffield Wednesday, but that has now gone all out of the window with Chansiri's latest non-payment of the wages.

Wednesday are in real trouble, and the Thai businessman has let this go on for five of the last seven months - and there appears to be no end in immediate sight due to his lofty price-tag for a sale.

Supporters are getting more and more desperate now though, and the talk of a potential on-pitch protest is only increasing on social media, which of course could have grave consequences for the actual team when it comes to points and getting a result.

For now though, the club's existence is being threatened by Chansiri's actions, and all that matters to fans is getting him out and getting someone capable of running the club to take over - Coventry City though may just have to temporarily suffer on Saturday when it comes to a match being played.

Lampard is right to air his concerns over what would happen in the event of the pitch invasion, and sporting integrity does need to be kept intact, but there is a much bigger concern at hand, and it would be very newsworthy if Sheffield Wednesday fans did indeed storm the pitch.
