The German started work as the Three Lions’ head coach in January this year, but he only signed a deal to take him until after the World Cup next year.

Therefore, the FA could be on the lookout for a new boss in nine months’ time, so they are sure to already be drawing up a shortlist of potential options if a longer contract isn’t a possibility.

Frank Lampard earns praise from pundit for his work at Coventry City

And, speaking on Sky Sports News, pundit O’Hara made it clear that he believes Lampard’s philosophy and his standing in the game makes him an ideal candidate to succeed the ex-PSG chief.

Coventry have been playing some fantastic football. I think they’ve scored 22 goals already this season, so they are flying in the EFL. I like everything about what he is doing, I’ve always liked him as a manager. Tactically, he sets his team up to play attacking football.

I think Lampard, for me, is definitely one that we’d look at in the future to take over as England manager after Thomas Tuchel, and why not? He is an England great, and he is showing managerially that he can do it at the highest level.”

Lampard’s Sky Blues side moved up to second in the Championship with a convincing 4-0 win at Millwall on Wednesday night as they look to reach the Premier League under the former Chelsea boss.

They face lowly Sheffield Wednesday this weekend and have a chance to further cement themselves in the race for automatic promotion in the Championship after play-off heartache last season under Lampard. Coventry lost to Sunderland over two semi-final legs, with Dan Ballard's last-gasp header denying them a penalty shootout lottery to reach Wembley.

Frank Lampard’s stock is going to rise due to his work at Coventry City

It’s no surprise to see Lampard suggested as a potential option for England, as his work at Coventry isn’t going to go unnoticed.

Obviously, it’s not what Coventry fans will want to hear right now, but it’s one of those things that happens when you are in charge of a successful team.

It’s worth remembering that Lampard had big boots to fill when he replaced Mark Robins, but he has built on his excellent work by creating a fast, dynamic, attacking team that looks as though they will be in the mix for promotion come May.

Whilst Lampard is sure to appreciate these words from O’Hara, he will be concentrating on taking the Sky Blues back to the Premier League.

After his mixed managerial career to date, Coventry seems like the ideal fit for Lampard right now, with the players and fans delighted with the work he has done since his arrival in November 2024.

What the future holds remains to be seen. Lampard, as an ex-England international that played the majority of his career at the peak of English football, will not want to manage in the Championship forever. He's had a taste of the top with Chelsea already and will want to get back to the peak of the sport, potentially with England.
