Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has said that Spurs are less attractive to new signings than Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Spurs currently sit 13th in the Premier League, nine places behind fourth-placed Liverpool, 11 behind second-placed City and 12 behind league leaders Arsenal.

Thomas Frank was asked whether Spurs are still an attractive prospect for new signings this January window.

“I think we are very attractive in many ways,” he answered. “I think Spurs is a fantastic club with huge potential.

“I think some of the boxes you need to tick are the stadium, the training ground and the potential. Of course, if we compete against the three teams that are clearly ahead of us, City, Arsenal and Liverpool unfortunately, then those three clubs are probably more attractive right now.

“It’s not the same that we can’t attract some of the players that also want to go to those clubs. It depends on if there’s a spot available for the player to play in, in those clubs compared to here for example.”

With Brennan Johnson sold to Crystal Palace this January, and Mohammed Kudus going off injured against Sunderland, Frank was asked about whether Dejan Kulusevski will be back in the squad soon. The Swede picked up a patella injury in May last year and has not featured for Spurs since.

“He is a key player and he’s been such a key player for us,” he said. “I completely agree on that and I would love to have him back soon.

“Unfortunately, it was a tricky injury he got, so it just takes time and they’re working very hard and he’s working very hard to come back on pitch.”

One player that got his chance against Sunderland was Mathys Tel. He made only his fourth start of the season in the Premier League, Frank spoke about how he can improve under him.

“I think that Mathys is a quite versatile player, he can play to the left, he can play ten, he can play a striker. Probably his best is somewhere between the three roles, and he’s young.

“In the past I’ve worked with Ollie Watkins who came as a winger, and I converted him to be a striker, and he’s a quite successful striker. Yoane Wissa came as a winger to us, and in the end he ended as a striker.

“He’s matching maybe the same time, he’ll start as a winger and end as a striker, I don’t know. No matter what, I’m pretty sure he can perform in both positions.”
