The Premier League heaped more misery on Thomas Frank this weekend with the Dane's ailing Totteham only able to draw 2-2 at 1/500 relegation near-certainties Burnley. It followed consecutive defeats to Bournemouth and West Ham, left Spurs 14th in the Premier League and Frank 6/4 to be the next English top flight manager to leave his job.
The Champions League, by contrast, has been a happier hunting ground for Tottenham in 2025/26. They have won four, drawn two and lost one of their seven matches and sit fifth in the league table. They beat Dortmund 2-0 last week to ease some of the pressure on Frank.
On Wednesday, Spurs will play a Frankfurt side that sit 33rd in the 36 team table after losing five of their seven games (W1D1). Last week, just a few days after sacking manager Dino Toppmöller, they lost 3-2 when travelling to Qarabag and they come into this fixture off the back of a 3-1 home defeat to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. Frankfurt are without a win in their last six (L3D3) in all competitions, so you can see why, even with Spurs' struggles take into account, the away win is 9/10, with the hosts 29/10 and the draw also 29/10.
This appears the ideal game for Tottenham then. They're against an opponent with nothing to play for and their destiny is in their own hands in the Champions League. Alone in fifth place on 14 points, as long as they win they will finish in the top eight and avoid a playoff spot.
And while Spurs are horribly unreliable in the Premier League they have been good in the Champions League. They do, however, owe their lofty position to their home form (W4) with their away games delivering two draws and a defeat from three so far.
The Londoners also have good recent memories of this fixture - Spurs beat Frankfurt 1-0 on the road in last season's Europa League campaign.
All in all, Tottenham really could not have asked for a better fixture. They just have to perform. However, they have not earned the Dr Tottenham tag without throwing in defeats when victory was seemingly assured! Anyone backing them cannot do so with 100% confidence.
If playing the match odds it is tempting to take your bet to odds-against by adding in over 2.5 goals for what would be a 7/5 winner. Frankfurt have conceded three goals in each of their last five fixtures. There's nothing for them to play for here so motivation could be an issue and they may well field some of the reserves.
So if Spurs are going to score a few it may pay to look for a few potential attacking angles.
Wilson Odobert is a player who divides opinion among the Spurs faithful. Clearly massively talented, the rapid young winger looks occasionally lightweight and can fade from games. He has nevertheless been afforded plenty of game time in recent weeks and assisted on the weekend to follow a pair against Dortmund last week. Of the lilkely starters I prefer him in the Betfair Sportsbook's to score/assist betting at a bigger price than all of Dominic Solanke, Randal Kolo Muani or Xavi Simons. We can back Odobert at 13/8 to either find the back of the net or supply the assist for a goal, with Safe Sub on our side should he be withdrawn from the lineup.
