Former Brighton defender Joel Veltman is heading to West Ham. The 34-year-old will feature in the Championship after leaving the Seagulls.

The experienced Veltman spent six seasons on the South Coast, capping off the stint as his side qualified for European football last season. He could have extended his contract, but the former Dutch international reportedly decided to pursue a new challenge.

This challenge now comes in the form of West Ham, a side reeling from their Premier League relegation.

Following his contract’s expiry, Veltman maintained fitness at his old club Ajax. The defender received offers from France with Strasbourg and Brazil with Botafogo, but decided to turn them down for a continued stay in England.

As per Voetbal International, the deal hasn’t yet been fully finalised, but the medical has already successfully taken place. As a result, it seems like it is only a matter of time before Veltman is unveiled at the East London club.
