Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men – and now the most commonly diagnosed of all cancers in the UK with men in North-west England having lower survival rates compared to other regions.

Every 45 minutes, or half a football match, one man in the UK dies from prostate cancer. However, with early detection prostate cancer is treatable.

That’s why at this Sunday’s match against Bournemouth; there will be a cancer awareness van situated outside the Etihad Stadium’s East Stand between 12:30-17:00.

Run by Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, ‘This Van Can’ offers free advice on cancer signs and symptoms. Ambassadors will be on hand to talk to fans about red flag symptoms across all cancer types and what to do if you notice anything unusual.

These vans are helping diagnose cancers earlier across Greater Manchester, meaning we are encouraging our visitors to learn more by visiting the friendly team for a chat - it could help save somebody’s life.

Throughout October, Manchester City fans joined Prostate United, the UK’s biggest football fundraiser, where fans, club staff, and football communities walked, ran or cycled every day throughout the month to raise awareness and vital funds for life-saving research.

There were over eleven thousand total activities, covering a total distance of more than fifty thousand miles and an incredible half a million minutes of activities, which raised over £350,00 for Prostate Cancer UK.

During the month, more than 3,000 individuals took part in the challenge for a cause close to their hearts, one of these individuals is Justin Foote.

Since 2019, Justin has raised thousands of pounds through Prostate United and other incredible fundraising efforts. In October, he has walked over 200 miles, with a minimum of 10km each day, he has covered over eight marathon distances, all whilst raising vital funds to save men’s lives.

On day 16 of the challenge, Justin, joined by two friends, walked from Sale to The Etihad Stadium to mark the midway point in this year’s challenge.

Despite Prostate United 2025 drawing to an end, there is still time to get involved!

On Friday 31 October 2025, Prostate United runners and staff from Prostate Cancer UK will meet in Manchester City Centre to celebrate the final day of the challenge.

Meeting at Classic Football Shirts on Dale Street at 8am they will aim to finish around 9am for a group photo and a well-earned coffee, a great opportunity to meet fellow Prostate United runners and learn more about how you can support Prostate Cancer UK.

And then two days later the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance’s signs and symptoms van will join us at the Etihad Stadium to offer free and helpful advice.

In the meantime, if you are concerned about prostate cancer you can check your risk in just 30 seconds using Prostate Cancer UK’s Risk Checker.
