Freiburg announce departure of Baptiste Santamaria to Rennes

Bundesliga side Freiburg have announced the departure of 26-year-old central midfielder Baptiste Santamaria to Rennes after one year in Germany.

L’Équipe reported yesterday that the French club have made Freiburg an offer of €14m for Santamaria, a fee that recoups what they paid for the Frenchman last summer.

“Baptiste approached us at relatively short notice with the wish to be able to move back to France with his family. After a difficult overall assessment, we decided to make the transfer possible due to his personal situation and the right financial framework,” said Freiburg board member Jochen Saier.

Santamaria played 33 games in all competitions for Freiburg last season.
