SC Freiburg have extended captain Christian Günter’s contract, the club confirmed on Wednesday without disclosing the length of the new deal.
The 32-year-old, Freiburg’s record appearance holder on 453, continues his long association with the Bundesliga side.

Sporting director Klemens Hartenbach praised Günter’s sporting and personal qualities, suggesting the captain would prefer to skip the fuss and focus on football.
He said Günter shows no sign of slowing in any area and that the club are thrilled.
Günter said he remains very hungry and that there is nothing better than playing for SC Freiburg.
He added that the team are successful this season as well and want to continue that, and he is looking forward to the challenges ahead.
