Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl is currently in England to complete a move to join Everton, according to El Bobble.

Manager David Moyes still wants more signings at the Hill Dickinson Stadium club, and the 23-year-old German has emerged as a late target.

Rohl has been on the radar of the Toffees for 12 months, but they face a race against time to complete a deal before the 7.00 pm transfer deadline.

Everton were keen on signing West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek, as Moyes eyed a reunion, but they rejected their offers.

Rohl was targeted in January, but a move did not materialise.

Everton are set to be without Idrissa Gueye for a couple of weeks towards the middle of the campaign as he will be playing in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Senegal.

Rohl can also feature at left-back, and his versatility could be valuable for Everton.

Everton have added Jack Grealish, Tyler Dibling, Tom King, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Adam Aznou to their squad this summer, but are not done yet.

The Merseyside club started the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a defeat to Leeds United but have bounced back with victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They return to action on September 13 when they host Aston Villa at home, and Rohl and another new player could be available if the deals are finalised in the coming hours.
