Freiburg ‘to line up’ Gladbach loanee Engelhardt as potential Manzambi replacement | OneFootball

Sky Germany reports that Freiburg are exploring a move to bring Yannick Engelhardt back, viewing the Gladbach loanee as cover if Johan Manzambi departs this summer.

The 25-year-old German midfielder is on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach from Como 1907 until the end of the season.

Gladbach have no option to buy in the agreement, and financial constraints could further limit their hopes of keeping him.

Freiburg are preparing for the possible exit of Manzambi, with a rumoured €60 million fee in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain, Bayer Leverkusen and Napoli have been linked with the Swiss international.

Engelhardt previously spent between 2021 and 2023 with Freiburg, however he featured only for their reserves.

Used mainly as a holding midfielder, Engelhardt has two goals and two assists in 27 top-flight appearances for Gladbach.
