Leading French football journalist Romain Molina has questioned Celtic’s wider football model following a damaging run of three consecutive defeats.
Martin O’Neill’s side have endured a miserable spell, losing twice to Rangers in the space of eight days with a 3-1 Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros sandwiched between those derby losses.
Molina, an award-winning author who has regularly covered and spoken about Scottish football, has become increasingly critical of Celtic’s direction in recent years.

He was particularly scathing following the Hoops’ Champions League qualifying collapse against LASK earlier this season and has now raised fresh questions about recruitment, O’Neill’s appointment and the overall project at Parkhead.
Writing on X following Celtic’s latest defeat, Molina said: “Third defeat in a week for Celtic, and twice against Rangers.
“The summer recruitment still raises many questions, just like the entire project…
“And that goes beyond the decision to extend Martin O’Neill, who had returned to the helm only for an interim role and who then engaged in intense lobbying to secure the position following the aborted experience with Wilfried Nancy.
“Nothing is going right overall in the management of Scottish football.
“The economic and sporting instability remains just as glaring, and successes with a genuine project are rare (let’s cite St Johnstone, which maintained its confidence in Simo Valakari, allowing him to work despite relegation, and who brought the Saints back to D1 with the added bonus of a strong start to the season).”
