According to L'Équipe, before France’s 3-1 win over Senegal, several French supporters around Metlife Stadium decried the soaring cost of attending 2026 World Cup matches in the United States. They said prices and overall budgets had far surpassed previous major tournaments.

Fans cited ticket prices of $700, $850 and $1,200, with some paying up to $2,400, roughly €2,000. They described those fees as far higher than what they had paid in past campaigns.

They stressed that the ticket was only part of the bill, with travel, hotels, food, days on site and even parking adding up. One supporter put his group-stage stay at $6,000 to $7,000, while another spoke of €3,000 for a week.

Beyond the figures, they questioned accessibility. Several argued that football should be the most popular and open sport, yet the event now feels business focused and premium.

A veteran of World Cups summed up the mood, calling it a disgrace and saying he paid because he wanted to be there, but that it was impossible for the average fan. He appealed to FIFA to sort it out.
