Fresh African backing for Gianni Infantino at FIFA | OneFootball

More African federation leaders have renewed support for Gianni Infantino, echoing Samuel Eto'o's stance on Thursday, and pointing to investment in the continent despite ongoing controversy around the FIFA president.

"It is not for me to say whether he is the right person or not, but we look at the record of the past 10 years," said Marcellin Bocove, president of the Benin Football Federation, speaking to Reuters.

"What matters to us is that Africa progresses in developing football, and that will shape our position in future. There are investments. We must keep going in the same direction, which will require even more investment, the needs are there and we must meet them."

"I sincerely find Infantino's passion for developing football in Africa admirable," said Gideon Fosu, a member of the Ghana FA executive committee.

"I hope the support he needs will transcend traditional divides. If the structures are there, and the will to develop women's football and the game in general in Africa is truly present, I think everyone should support it."

The comments were made on the sidelines of the U-20 Women's World Cup in Kotwice, Poland, which starts on Saturday and runs until 27 September.

In office since 2016, Infantino will seek a final term at the FIFA presidential election on 18 March 2027.
