Norwich City are still on the lookout for a new boss after parting ways with Liam Manning at the beginning of the international break.

The Canaries are hurtling towards relegation this season and are in desperate need of stability, sitting 23rd and winning just two matches in 15 outings.

Last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat against Leicester City meant the Canaries have now suffered seven defeats in their last eight Championship games, with a huge turnaround needed if they are to avoid plummeting into League One.

The next appointment from the Norwich hierarchy could prove to be season-defining, but there is no lack of interest in the role.

Former Blackburn Rovers boss John Dahl Tomasson and ex-Wolves boss Gary O’Neil have reportedly both been interviewed by the club for the position, while ex-Southampton man Will Still has also held talks after recently departing the South Coast.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United icon and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken about his desire to get back to coaching in England, revealing on an episode of the Overlap that he would consider taking a job in the Championship.

Solskjaer said: “I’m looking, I’m open.

“It’s not like I’m desperate to be back in, but yeah, I can be.

“I love living [in England] as well.

“You know when my kids ask me [where], I’m [telling them], mid-Championship and up.

“But I’m a football man, is it Norway or Sweden or wherever? It’s about working with people, and I just love trying to make them be the best versions of themselves.”

The Norwegian’s last managerial role was with Turkish giants Besiktas, where he boasted a 52%-win record, so the 52-year-old could be a coup appointment for one of the second-tier sides that need a boss.

With this in mind, FLW’s Norwich City fan pundit has expressed his thoughts over whether Solskjaer could make the move to Carrow Road.

Doubt cast over Norwich City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointment

Speaking to Football League World, Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would fit the type of manager profile the Canaries are looking for, but just can’t see a move materialising over the coming weeks.

Zeke said: “I don’t know how I feel about this. In hindsight, he did OK at Manchester United. It seemed like he was doing a bad job, but everybody after him has been worse.

“I am surprised he hasn’t got another job in England at this point, and I am also a bit surprised he hasn’t been looked at (by Norwich) as he seems the sort of manager that we would go for.

“It is a risk, but they’re all risks nowadays, aren’t they? He hasn’t done too much since leaving Man Utd, but I think the style of play lines up with us.

“I don’t think it’ll be too long before he’s back in England, but I don’t think it’ll be with Norwich.”

Norwich City under massive pressure over their next managerial appointment

As alluded to earlier in the piece, the Norwich City hierarchy simply have to get their next managerial appointment correct, otherwise they will be staring down the barrel of a return to League One for the first time since 2009.

It’s somewhat of a shock to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer open to jobs at Championship clubs so far down the wrong end of the table, particularly after managing big names at Manchester United and recently getting the opportunity to manage one of the biggest clubs in Turkey too.

Of course, actions speak louder than words, and if the decision had to be made, it’s unclear whether Solskjaer would actually want to take the job.

From a Norwich perspective, it doesn’t seem like the time to be handing a job out to someone who has no prior experience of managing at Championship level. The club desperately needs a safe pair of hands who has dug teams out of the mire before and can do the same here.

Would Solskjaer be able to handle such a reduction in squad quality? Would he be able to handle the rough and tumble of the Championship?

Those are just a couple of questions that would test his resolve if he was to be appointed, and frankly, Norwich don’t have the time to figure out the answers when their Championship status is so precariously on the line.
