Lazio have another matter to worry about as their desired new home, Stadio Flaminio, currently lies in a state of disarray.
The Biancocelesti have been sharing the Stadio Olimpico with their arch-rivals Roma for decades, but they’re determined to have their own stadium in the coming years. The club has identified the currently defunct Stadio Flaminio as the perfect answer for their ambitious project.
In March 2025, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has already presented a €450 million renovation plan to the municipality of Rome, receiving a positive, albeit unofficial, reception from the mayor who praised the project, but there hasn’t been any concrete progress on this track ever since.
In a new report published by La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the newspaper describes the dire state of the Stadio Flaminio, highlighting how the entire facility is in a degenerating state.
A real open-air landfill, closed off by chains and padlocks but with all its contents exposed: two three-meter-high columns of wood; a gutted tractor wrapped in brambles; a crooked coat rack next to a row of stacked paintings; refrigerators; broken mattresses; industrial kitchens. These are just some of the waste items present inside the facility.
The source notes that the municipality claims that the unsavoury scene is intentional, specifically designed for a movie shooting. Nevertheless, the newspaper isn’t entirely convinced by this clarification, as the stadium’s ‘guardian’ revealed that the stadium is almost being used as a junkyard.
They come here to drop anything. Last week, they drop everything away, throwing it from behind the gate.
Therefore, Lazio will be hoping that this unpalatable situation will be resolved in the coming days, as the hierarchy might aim to accelerate their stadium plans, perhaps in an effort to divert attention from their chaotic transfer market situation.
