As the latest international break comes to an end, Ipswich Town will be hopeful of staking a claim for immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

In what has been a slow start for all the top-flight relegated trio, the Tractor Boys are showing the biggest intent on getting into the promotion conversation, climbing to seventh and on the periphery of the play-off places following an emphatic 4-1 win away at Swansea City.

That victory in South Wales means Ipswich have been on a run of three wins from their last four matches, and are on an upwards trajectory for when they clash with Wrexham.

Over the course of the summer transfer window, Ipswich were able to maintain a pretty strong squad at Championship level despite dealing with the fallout of relegation from the top-flight.

One key figure they managed to hold onto was full-back Leif Davis, who, despite registering a relegation onto his CV, had a promising individual campaign in the big time, which saw him record one goal and three assists from 33 appearances.

Building on his sensational promotion-winning campaign the term prior, which saw him notch 21 assists in 43 league games, some Premier League clubs were interested in letting Davis continue his rise in the top-flight.

One of those clubs was Nottingham Forest, with TalkSPORT reporting back in August that the Reds were set to make a bid for the defender.

Of course, none of this came to fruition, with Davis remaining at Portman Road for the first half of this Championship campaign at least, but some of the Ipswich faithful may be fearful that Davis could be swayed into an exit as another transfer window rolls around.

With this in mind, FLW’s Ipswich Town fan pundit has issued his thoughts on whether Davis will remain a Tractor Boys player come the end of the January transfer window.

Speaking to Football League World, Ipswich Town fan pundit Adam Wilkin thinks Leif Davis will remain an Ipswich Town player beyond the January transfer window, with his underwhelming start to this Championship season meaning some top-flight clubs may have cooled their interest over a move.

Adam said: “I don’t think Leif Davis will be in demand, to be honest.

“Over the summer he made it clear he was committed to the club and wasn’t looking to move along despite the rumoured interest there was.

“The January market tends to be a lot quieter anyway, so I don’t imagine there will be too many internal moves within the English pyramid. Most English teams will be shopping abroad to get more value for money.

“Given his contract status, he probably would only be available at an inflated price anyway, and, although his form has been good this season, it’s not been at the levels of our last promotion season, so that hopefully has made him slip off of people’s transfer data dashboard radars, so I’m not too worried on that front.”

Underwhelming form or not, Ipswich Town need to keep hold of Leif Davis

While Leif Davis hasn’t had the best season by any stretch in terms of attacking output, we’ve seen him demonstrate the impact he can make from left-back over the last three seasons.

His quality going forward in attacking areas has been a joy to watch both in League One and the Championship, and it’s undoubtedly a matter of time before it clicks and the assists start rolling in once again.

Meanwhile, in the summer, Davis reiterated his desire to stay at Ipswich and help fire them back to the Premier League after being touted for a move to Nottingham Forest, so it would be a lack of class to see him turn his back on the club that has made him into the player he is today.

In order to be successful, Ipswich need quality and goal contributions from all over the pitch, and their most reliable asset that can do that from the backline is Davis, so it’s paramount they keep him for the remainder of the season to have the best possible chance of securing promotion back to the top-flight at the first attempt.
