Liverpool are wrapping up significant transfer business before the deadline on Tuesday.

Bradley Barcola has put pen to paper on his Anfield contract following his £123m move from Paris Saint-Germain. And more wingers are likely to follow.

Deals are live for both Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh. Crystal Palace want £75m for 28-year-old Senegal winger Sarr while Minteh - currently injured - is valued slightly higher at £80m by his club Brighton.

Liverpool outgoings are necessary

In order to facilitate deals for Barcola and another winger outgoings are inevitable. Federico Chiesa may end up leaving for a club in Serie A while Harvey Elliott is wanted for a loan deal at Valencia.

And what about Cody Gakpo? Reports emerged over the weekend that the 27-year-old forward wanted a move to Manchester City. Enzo Maresca’s side have moved into lead to sign the Dutch international - who joined the Reds back in 2023 for around £37m.

He looks surplus to requirements now however with Barcola leading Andoni Iraola’s attacking revolution.

Liverpool reject City's opening offer for Gakpo

An asking price of around £85m has been set for the versatile attacker - who is under contract until 2030 on wages of around £250k per week.

It’s been claimed by a report in the Daily Mail that City have slid an opening offer across Richard Hughes’ desk in a bid to land the former PSV captain.

But that bid has fallen SHORT of what Liverpool need for Gakpo - who has started the season in decent form for Iraola.

Agreement expected for £85m Gakpo

“City's first offer for the Netherlands international was understood to be short of Liverpool's valuation but an agreement is expected,” the report reads.

There is no doubt that City will be back with another offer - hopefully one that satisfies the Reds’ requirements. Because it would appear that Liverpool’s remaining transfer business will hinge on getting Gakpo out.

Liverpool have spent big across the last 12 months - around £670m on new players - and probably cannot afford another major deal unless Gakpo’s overall fee is banked.
