The defeat and subsequent elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Bologna is a tough blow for Roma to swallow.
Yesterday, Gasperini and the Friedkins met at Trigoria, and the club specifically asked the coach to finish the season on a high note, with nine games remaining.
The Giallorossi currently occupy sixth place in Serie A but are two and three points behind Juventus and Como, respectively.
There’s a strong sense of discontent in the capital after the unexpected defeat against the Rossoblu, which, for many fans, marked the end of the season.
Despite the disappointment, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, the Friedkins reiterate that the season can still be salvaged and defended the squad in their chat with Gasperini.
The coach, for his part, defended his decisions and criticized the club for their decisions and transfer delays, especially regarding the attacking department.
Maximum commitment from now until the end: this is what the Friedkins have asked of the team, knowing that qualification for next season’s Champions League remains difficult but not impossible.
The American owners, in fact, have never explicitly asked for this objective, but at the same time, they are asking for a push to the end and not to throw away a season that, until a few weeks ago, saw Roma third in the standings and in full contention for the final stages of the Europa League.
