Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against Egypt on Tuesday, December 16, at the Cairo International Stadium. This friendly, played in preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, saw the Pharaohs end a nine-year winless streak against the Super Eagles.

The Egyptian national team opened the scoring in the first half through Mahmoud Saber (27').

Just before halftime, the Super Eagles managed to equalize through Chidozie Awaziem (45+2'), who headed home from a set piece.

In the second half, Egypt regained the lead thanks to Mostafa Mohamed. The striker made the most of a golden opportunity in the box, firing an unstoppable shot in the 52nd minute to secure a 2-1 win for the hosts. Despite mounting pressure, Nigeria could not find a way back into the match.
