Juventus won convincingly in their first friendly outing of pre-season against Servette. A 6-1 win and many promising signs ahead of the American tour that starts next week.

AS IT HAPPENED

Juventus Women were immediately on the front foot through Girelli in the 2nd minute, who tucked away a smart finish after being set up by Cantore. Juve were very purposeful in their play, with intense, free-flowing football and, in fact, it was risky as shown in the 21st minute when Capelletti did excellently to deny Mauron in a one-on one. Straight after that, Juve went up the other end and could have doubled their advantage on the 22nd minute when Cantore and Girelli linked up once more.

Instead, the second goal was scored in the 26th minute through Lehmann who got on the end of an exquisite assist from Bonansea to score her first goal in a Juventus Women shirt. On the 41st minute, Barbara provided a nerve-racking moment for the Juve defence after a Servette freekick deflected off her and looked as though it could be dangerous, but instead three minutes later she scored the Bianconere’s third with a left-footed finish from Boattin’s corner.

Just before the half-time whistle Servette were able to find what would turn out to be a consolation goal through Simonsson.

JUVE DOMINANCE IN THE SECOND PERIOD

The Bianconere showed no signs of letting up in the second half as it was only six minutes after the restart when Beccari found Bergamaschi in the area who finished expertly with a chip. In the 63rd minute it seemed as though Vangsgaard had further extended the advantage, but her goal, which had perfectly concluded a move involving Bragonzi and Caruso, was ruled out for a push. However, Juve continued to dominate, and in the 77th minute Krumbiegel bundled the ball home after great play from Bergamaschi on the wing, and then in the 90th minute Vangsgaard did get her goal after she finished off a magnificent pass from Cocino with an equally magnificent chip.

Six goals for Juventus: No better way to start the season on the pitch.

COACH CANZI’S THOUGHTS

Juventus Women coach Massimiliano Canzi was satisfied at the end of the match: “I really liked the attitude, positive from start to finish, the desire to test ourselves on what we have worked on so far, but also the desire to overcome tiredness, which is normal at this period of the season. The first half was more difficult, I'm very happy though because right now I couldn't even tell the difference between the first- and second-string teams, as the quality is that high. The physical condition will always have to be at a high level for our style of play, even out of possession, because we will have to compete for every challenge as though it is the last of the match. In this sense, at times today we became a little complacent, and we have to work on this.”

BERGAMASCHI'S COMMENTS

"It was a really exciting day, I'm very happy to be part of this team, we're all working hard together; there are many new girls but we're building an exciting group, and that's something that will help us going forward. The main thing Canzi has asked of us so far? To be a team, even during difficult times, to always have the right attitude; we are laying the foundations to create a winning team, we have a difficult championship ahead of us and we want to compete in it at our best level and enjoy it.”
