FRMF green light: Ounahi available for Girona–Real Sociedad showdown

Girona has received a major boost ahead of its highly anticipated Friday clash against Real Sociedad in the 16th round of La Liga. The Catalan club has been given the green light by the Moroccan Football Federation to keep their midfielder Azzedine Ounahi until after this match.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, the Moroccan federation has officially approved Girona’s request, dispelling any doubts that surrounded the player’s immediate future in recent days and providing much-needed relief to the coaching staff.

As a result, Ounahi will play his final match for the current 18th-placed team in the Spanish top flight before joining the Atlas Lions’ camp ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Morocco. The Moroccan midfielder is then expected to be absent for about a month.

Since the start of the season, the Moroccan international has left a significant mark on Girona’s performances. Having featured nine times, he has delivered solid displays, contributing to four goals between assists and finishes. These numbers confirm his importance and influence within the Catalan squad.
