Froholdt has welcomed a rare blank week to reset after a bruising run in which he failed to finish three straight matches, hampered first by a heavy knock and then fever.

According to O Jogo, it started in Plzen where, late on, the Danish midfielder took a heavy blow to his right foot. He recovered to face Gil Vicente but departed on 82 minutes.

Three days later, at home to Rangers, he was withdrawn on 68 minutes. At Casa Pia, which proved fateful for FC Porto, he had a fever and, still short of full fitness, came on for the final half hour.

In the 11 games before the trip to Plzen, beginning with the 30 November home match against Estoril, he played the full 90 each time. He has gone the distance in 23 of his 31 appearances.

Francesco Farioli has repeatedly highlighted his resilience, viewing him as the side’s engine with stamina to match. Even so, recent weeks have tested him and his game is built on that intensity.

Now recovered, and after his first full training week since the early-year camp, Froholdt has refilled the tank.
