After losing 1-0 to Atlético-GO on Sunday, Tiago Nunes stepped down as Grêmio’s coach, following the management’s ultimatum issued after the loss to Juventude on Wednesday.

Tricolor remain at the bottom of the Brasileirão table, with two points after nine games.

After the game, football deputy Marcos Herrmnann announced the head coach’s departure.

Dragon, on the other hand, rose to seventh place on the log, three points behind the fourth place.

Grêmio were under pressure, trying to get something out of the game while denying its opponent a chance to win.

They simply played better with the addition of Jean Pyerre in the team.  With the support of Eduardo Barroca, Atlético-GO were able to exploit the gaps left by the tricolor attackers.

Geromel got the finest chance in the 11th minute, which Fernando Miguel took advantage of.

Atlético had the clearest chance of the first half after a counterattacking situation when Luco attempted a header but was denied by Brenno.

The hosts had a brighter start to the second half, as Jean Pyerre found himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, but failed to get the ball past the goalie.

Atlético-GO, on the other hand, didn’t waste any time in getting the ball rolling. Dudu had a great one-two exchange with Diogo Barbosa in the 55th minute and then fed Luco in the centre of the area, to tap the ball into the back of the net as the visitors went ahead. Despite lacking in firepower, Grêmio attempted to respond in the 69th minute through Diego Souza, but his effort was in vain.

Grêmio will return to action next Wednesday, with or without a coach to face Palmeiras at the Arena Palmeiras, while Atlético-GO hosts Sport at Antônio Accioly.
