Alexander Nouri, a former Bundesliga head coach, has swapped the touchline for business, running two McDonald’s restaurants in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at 46.

According to Superdeporte, he completed the chain’s training and became a franchisee, working shifts, cooking and organising schedules to learn the operation from the ground up. He says the same leadership and team management skills from football can be applied to hospitality, bringing people together in a different setting.

Nouri rose to prominence with Werder Bremen in 2016/17, piecing together an 11-match unbeaten run. He later took charge of FC Ingolstadt, then worked as assistant and interim coach at Hertha BSC, before a brief spell in Greece with AO Kavala.

He stepped away from professional football in 2022 without prior notice.

Born in Bremen in 1979, he was a midfielder who spent his playing days largely in Germany’s lower tiers with Werder Bremen II, VfB Oldenburg and TuS Koblenz. After retiring young, he moved into coaching within Werder’s structure, and his first-team tenure was defined by pragmatic football with a limited squad before he was dismissed the following season after a poor run.
