Manchester City are among several European clubs keeping tabs on Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta, as per a report from France.
Berta only arrived at the Emirates Stadium in March 2025, appointed as successor to Edu Gaspar after spending 12 remarkably successful years as sporting director at Atletico Madrid.
His first summer window in north London proved equally impressive. The Italian oversaw the arrivals of Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, and Martin Zubimendi at the club – a trio of signings that have led Arsenal’s charge towards a first Premier League title in 22 years.
It is little surprise, then, that Berta’s reputation is beginning to attract attention from elsewhere as clubs plan for the summer transfer window.

As reported by Foot Mercato and relayed by Get Football News France, AS Monaco are interested in luring Berta to the principality, though any approach from the Ligue 1 club is said to be contingent on CEO Thiago Scuro departing his post, with the executive currently under pressure at the club.
It is a significant qualifier. Monaco’s interest may be genuine but with Scuro still in situ, any concrete move for Berta would appear premature – at least for now.
The more intriguing dimension of the story is the inclusion of Manchester City among the clubs monitoring Berta’s situation. City are said to be interested in the event that Pep Guardiola departs this summer, which would trigger a wider overhaul at the club – a scenario that is looking increasingly likely in the coming weeks.
City’s interest comes despite having only brought in Hugo Viana as their own director of football last year. However, the logic is clear: should Guardiola’s exit prompt a broader restructuring of City’s football operations, the club’s hierarchy may look to bolster the senior leadership around Viana.
It is worth noting that Viana was appointed specifically to lead City’s recruitment and footballing strategy regardless of what happens in the dugout, so any pursuit of Berta would likely represent an addition rather than a replacement – though the precise nature of any potential role for the Italian at the Etihad Stadium remains unclear at present.
Bayern Munich are also said to be closely monitoring Berta’s availability, despite the Bundesliga giants already employing two sporting directors in Max Eberl and Christoph Freund – an indication of just how highly regarded the 53-year-old Italian is considered within the European game’s upper echelons.

From Arsenal’s perspective, the prospect of losing a sporting director barely a year into his tenure – and one who delivered so emphatically in his very first transfer window – would represent a significant blow at a pivotal moment in the club’s history.
Berta keeps an intentionally low public profile and rarely speaks in the media, but his work in the background at both Atletico Madrid and now Arsenal speaks for itself. With the Gunners on the verge of potentially their greatest season in over two decades, it would be a remarkable turn of events were he to depart before seeing that project through.
For Manchester City and AS Monaco, the chase for Berta remains very much one to watch – but for now, at least, he appears firmly focused on completing the job he was brought to north London to do.
