Legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly in support of the prospect of former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri succeeding Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is currently under immense pressure following United’s 0-3 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.

The uninspiring Reds put up a pitiful and lethargic performance that left a lot to be desired, as Ten Hag’s position in the dugout comes under increasing scrutiny.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Dutchman likely has the two upcoming matches vs. Porto and Aston Villa in the Europa League and Premier League respectively to save his job.

While club bosses are calm about the situation and are still backing him, it’s understood that they will not hesitate to pull the trigger and sack him if results and performances don’t drastically improve.

Some of the top coaches who have so far been linked with the United role include Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Eddie Howe and Gareth Southgate.

Another candidate previously mentioned to be a candidate for the United hot seat was Allegri and now La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the Italian tactician has a very special backer in the race – Sir Alex.

According to the publication, these are “hot hours” at United, with Ten Hag at “serious risk” of being relieved of his duties at the English club.

The newspaper further states, “Behind the scenes, the Red Devils’ directors are scanning the market to evaluate a weighty solution.”

“In this perspective, the candidacy of Max Allegri is taking shape, free after the termination of his contract with Juventus.”

“His most fearsome competitor is the German Thomas Tuchel, formerly of Bayern Munich, but also in the past at Chelsea.”

The Gazzetta explain that while Tuchel retains the advantage of having some Premier League experience, Allegri possesses the “exceptional” support of Sir Alex, who appreciates and loves the Italian game.

Sir Alex apparently has “an idea of change” that Allegri is suited to take up the United job and have the same impact as Carlo Ancelotti. Allegri is mentioned as someone with “a lot of experience.”

Allegri was sacked by Juventus in May, just two days after he led the Old Lady to Italian Cup glory. The Turin outfit beat Atalanta 1-0 but the 57-year-old was sent off late on for ranting at match officials and waving away the club’s sporting director during the ensuing celebrations.
