Dominic Solanke threw his name into the hat for the Premier League Goal of the Season award this weekend, after scoring a sensational scorpion kick against Manchester City.

Solanke's acrobatic effort earned Tottenham a point in North London and saw him join thePremier League's annals of arachnid-inspired goals.

Laurent Robert

Laurent Robert was no stranger to stunning goals during his time in thePremier League. The Frenchman's long-range shooting was feared during spells at Newcastle United and Portsmouth, with only a handful of players having ever scored more than his 11 free-kicks in the division.

The Frenchman proved that he was also pretty handy inside the box too, with this effort against Fulham in January 2004. Nolberto Solano's floated cross was behind Robert, but he miraculously contorted to connect with his heel and score.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The 2016/17 campaign was the season of the scorpion kick.

There were not one, but two, incredible scorpion style goals scored within days.Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the first after scoring this Christmas cracker in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Sunderland on Boxing Day 2016.

Outrageous from the Armenian.

Olivier Giroud

Mkhitaryan must have thought he had sewn up the Goal of the Season award, only forOlivier Giroud to produce this on New Year's Day.

The Frenchman's fabulous finish, after a free-flowingArsenal move, saw him claim the FIFA Puskas Award.

Incredibly, neither Mkhitaryan nor Giroud won thePremier League equivalent. That honour went to Emre Can for an overhead effort for Liverpool at Watford.

Pablo Fornals

A little less aesthetic than earlier efforts, but still a fine moment of improv from Fornals here.

Dominic Solanke

Solanke's scorpion kick was the highlight of an entertaining encounter between Spurs and Manchester City, as the North London side fought back from two goals down at half-time to claim a point.

Solanke had halved the deficit with his first of the afternoon, before meeting Conor Gallagher's cross in stunning style to equalise. After an injury-hit season so far, this was Solanke back at his best.
