It’s not often that professional footballers tell their story through music rather than goals. Luis Díaz has decided to do just that. The FC Bayern attacker has released his own song for the first time – and is surprisingly not a self-promoter, but a storyteller
Luis Fernando Díaz Marulanda, born in 1997 in Barrancas on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, comes from one of the poorest regions of the country. His family belongs to an indigenous population group, and there were few prospects. The path out of this reality led through hard work, hardship and an extraordinary will. Today, Díaz is a national hero, his face adorns a huge mural in his home town. His social advancement is seen by many children in Colombia as proof that dreams can become reality
With the title „La Promesa“, or „The Promise“, Díaz has released a very personal song together with Colombian artists DJ Juanda Iriarte and Nelsen. The focus is on the promise he once made to his family: to make a better life possible through discipline, work and faith. The image of the „casita“, the small house, appears again and again in the lyrics – a strong symbol of security, gratitude and social advancement
Díaz describes his path as a constant struggle. Even at a young age, he had to take on responsibility, overcome resistance and learn to distinguish between honest support and false friends. The song draws clear lines between family that supports and people who do not grant success. The calm, almost humble tone is striking. „La Promesa“ deliberately avoids ostentation and exaggeration
A central motif is faith. The recurring reference to God shows the role that spirituality plays in the Bayern star’s life. This faith was an anchor for Díaz, especially in moments of doubt and uncertainty. The song therefore feels less like a marketing gimmick and more like a personal testimony
In sporting terms, many lines can easily be transferred to Díaz’s career. When he talks about „having to go out as a champion“ or „putting on the gloves“, these are clear metaphors for competition, pressure to perform and the daily struggle in professional soccer. For him, success is not a product of chance, but the result of consistent hard work in silence
This attitude is also reflected in his role at FC Bayern. Díaz is not a loudspeaker, but a player who impresses through commitment, intensity and reliability. It is precisely this mentality that has quickly made him a top performer in Munich – and fits in surprisingly well with the message of his song
„La Promesa“ is not a classic footballer track about fame, money or status symbols. Rather, it is a musical speech of thanks. To his family, to his origins, to his faith – and to the path he has taken. It is precisely this down-to-earth attitude that gives the song credibility.
