Aoba Fujino and Iman Beney have been shortlisted for October’s Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month award.
The pair were key figures in an impressive month for City, where we maintained a 100% record in the WSL ahead of the first international break.
Andrée Jeglertz’s side sit just one point off the WSL summit having beaten Arsenal 3-2 and Liverpool 2-1 across October.
Fujino, who’s strike against Tottenham Hotspur was shortlisted for September’s WSL Goal of the Month, continued her fine start to the new season with two energetic displays from the right.
The Japan international played an important role in our opening goal against the Gunners when combining with Kerstin Casparij down the right flank, capping off an excellent individual display at the Joie Stadium.
She then followed that up with the winning goal at Anfield, picking up play from Sydney Lohmann before firing into the bottom corner to complete our turnaround on Merseyside.
Beney, meanwhile, has adapted seamlessly to the WSL in her first season outside of her native Switzerland, opening her City account with the winning goal against Arsenal.
She was rewarded with a starting berth the following week at Anfield, and repaid that faith by grabbing our equaliser with a well-taken effort.
Aoba and Iman are competing with London City Lionesses’ Jana Fernandez, Manchester United midfielder Jess Park, Aston Villa’s Lynn Wilms and Spurs goalkeeper Lize Kop for the award.
