Sander Berge is set for a move to the English capital - and it will be his second move in two years.

Fulham have struck an agreement to sign Burnley midfielder Sander Berge.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a £25m deal has been agreed and the player is set to make the switch to the Cottagers.

The Clarets had a fairly quiet summer in terms of outgoings earlier in the window, with the Lancashire side retaining much of their first-team squad from the season before.

Triggering permanent options on a couple of their loanees, they also retained Jay Rodriguez, who put pen to paper on a new deal.

Charlie Taylor may have departed, along with Aro Muric, but Scott Parker's side looked very strong coming into the first game of the season.

However, things have changed slightly since then, with Wilson Odobert making the move to Tottenham Hotspur and Berge now set for a switch to West London.

The Norwegian only arrived at Turf Moor last summer, coming in during a high-spending window from Sheffield United, who had also been promoted back in 2023.

And although his impact was fairly limited in front of goal, Berge impressed in Lancashire and has seemingly done enough to stay in the Premier League, despite the Clarets' relegation earlier this year.

He endured a mixed time at Bramall Lane, with injuries often holding him back, but he played a fairly big part in the Blades' promotion back to the top flight last year and was able to end his stay in South Yorkshire on a reasonably high note because of that.

Unfortunately for the Clarets, it doesn't look as though he will remain at Turf Moor to help Parker's side in their quest to return to the top level, something they could do with or without Berge following an exceptional start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Big wins against Luton Town and Cardiff City have allowed them to climb to the top of the Championship table.

Latest on Sander Berge as he closes in on Fulham move

According to Romano, a deal has now been agreed, with an initial £20m set to be paid.

A further £5m could follow after that, with the Clarets set to richly benefit financially from the midfielder's exit.

And in an update this morning, it has been revealed that the player is now in London to undergo medical checks, before he finalises his move to Craven Cottage.

Having featured heavily for his current team last season, very few people would expect him to fail that medical.

With Berge coming in, the Cottagers have pulled out of the race for Scott McTominay.

Burnley must ensure they are strong enough on the pitch this season

With Odobert leaving and Berge set to follow him, it's vital that the Clarets are strong enough on the pitch to boost their chances of a top-tier return.

Balancing the books is a good thing, because they haven't been afraid to spend this summer either, but they can't afford to leave themselves short of options and/or quality.

The Clarets are in a strong position to compete for a top-tier return, so they must avoid a potential firesale and replace those who have left.

They haven't strengthened their central midfield this summer and with Jack Cork and Samuel Bastien already departed, some additions in this area will surely be required before the window closes.

Depth will be crucial during a long season.
